Every now and again…life will get to you.
It will become overwhelming. Stressful. Burdensome.
You may want to run to the top of a hill and scream. Or bench press a refrigerator. Or tackle a snowman.
Obviously, you need to sort out these feelings. But…
…in the meantime –
Let out that inner beast. Vent a little. Take up kickboxing. Run an extra few miles. Meditate. But, don’t hurt the people you care about. Either through words or actions. Don’t dump your garbage all over their lives. They have enough to deal with.
When I feel stressed…well…I love to get behind the wheel of a fast car and open that baby up. The adrenaline rush gets me into a spirit of calmness. (Disclaimer: I – of course – ALWAYS drive under the speed limit.) 🙂
Strumming or banging out a few riffs on the guitar is also a sweet way to chill out. I mean, seriously. Who doesn’t like music? (except for my dad – never figured that one out.) Music truly does soothe the savage beast.
Speaking of beasts. You see that dude above??
That’s a photo of yours truly (if someone catches me on the wrong day.)
Ah. Just kidding. But, seriously. We all have that animal instinct in us. We turn it off to keep in-line with polite society…however…letting it out in constructive ways can often lead to great results.
Such as…
A clear mind. Happy heart. And, replenished soul.
P.S. I want to give a special thanks to a few blogs for nominating me for several awards over the past few months. These blogs, and more importantly – the people who run them, have been great supporters of my website. They are all very kind and genuine people, who have excellent blogs.
So…without further ado, a special thanks to:
Krissy @ Crickets are OK
Mitch @ The Power of Story
Sue @ Crime Fiction Writer Sue Coletta
and
Kate @ Art & Aspergers
P.S.S. The Lamborghini is not mine…I wish it was though. I saw it parked at The Grove in LA, and had to take a photo of it. The guitars – however – are mine. The electric was a gift from my cool wife when I turned 30. The beast photo is of the “Red Hulk.” It was a handmade sculpture for sale at Universal Studios. I thought it was really cool looking…alright, I am done babbling!
Have a great day!

Thank you for liking “Out of This World.” I enjoyed reading this post because I had a pretty lousy week last week. There is no hill I could run up where I live, but I certainly did my share of screaming. 😀 I have been trying to take it easy this weekend and catch up on things I have missed doing like blogging. I am hoping this coming week will be better.
I am glad to find out from the comments in your latest post that your show went well. Take care, Kevin. 🙂

Hi Arlene! Thanks for the comment. Sorry to hear about your lousy week, but I am confident you will bounce back. Life is like that, right? Full of hills and valleys. I know it sounds cliché, but it really is true. Glad to hear you are optimistic about this week! I am looking forward to posting my performance on my site, so you can hopefully share some laughs with me! Have a great day. 🙂

You are welcome and thanks for your sympathy, Kevin. I was hoping that this week would be better, but some sad things happened. Yesterday, I took one of my older cats to the vet because something was wrong with one of his eyes. The vet put my cat under anesthesia and discovered that he had a tumor growing in the back of his mouth, and it grew large enough to push against his eye. The vet could not remove the tumor because of its location. The tumor was causing my cat a lot of pain, so the vet recommended euthanizing my cat while he was under anesthesia so that he would not suffer anymore. I agreed because I could see my cat was in a lot of pain too, and my dad also thought it was the best thing to do under the circumstances. I was surprised by what happened because there were no other obvious warning signs except for his eye. Later that day, when I went to the store to get some pet food for my surviving cats and my dog, the power went out, and I couldn’t buy anything for them because the cash registers were down.
I am sad now, but I will be okay. I miss the pets that I have lost over the years, but I know that they can’t live forever. Despite recent events, I am looking forward to seeing your performance. I could use a few good laughs to cheer me up. 🙂
I hope you are having a good week (at least better than mine).

I am very sorry to hear about your loss. I had two dogs as a kid, and I was very sad when they left this world. My deepest sympathies. Well…I hope my jokes will cheer you up! I am aiming to have my performance posted in, not my next post, but the one after that. I plan on posting some photos this weekend from Santa Cruz Island. Be well, Arlene! 🙂

Thank you, Kevin. Yes, it is sad to lose pets. I am sorry to hear that you lost some pets too. I miss my cat, but he was in bad shape and could not be saved. It helps that I have other cats and a dog still here with me.
I know it is kind of awkward to try to transition from sad to happy news. I myself resisted the urge to write a post about my cat’s death on my blog because I do not want to make more people depressed about my loss. I will be okay, but it will take some time to get used to life without him. Thanks for giving me a preview of coming attractions on your blog. I look forward to seeing your photos and your performance. 🙂

So true, Kevin, not to let that stress and unhappiness spill over onto everyone else–especially little children. Always find a way to balance. Good post 🙂

I am curious to know what kind of car you drive that remains under the speed limit when ‘opened up’ because I would like to get one for my 18 year old son! 🙂 As far as music goes, when I am in a less-than-good-mood, Napalm Death, Dead Kennedys, Motorhead, System Of A Down and on the milder side, Smashing Pumpkins, usually do it for me

I cannot reveal the secret of the super fast, under-the-speed-limit car. If I do, everyone will try to get one. lol. Good music choices.

hello, thanks so much for the follow, it really means a lot. I like this post. I am a guitarist myself and I don’t know what I would do without it. Again, thanks for the follow, I hope you get something out of what I write! 🙂

Yes… Music is my quintessential sanctuary – although my music taste scares most people, especially when I go nuts for extreme metal! My friends can’t even stay in the same room if I put my iPod on speaker LOL. I have like 80GB of music on my computer that even with a 64GB iPod, I have to constant update through “elimination” when I add new music. I also spend A LOT on buying albums, supporting bands and going to live shows.

Yeah, music is great. I am always listening to it. How did I know you liked extreme metal?? LOL I would have never guessed based on your writings! My brother-in-law loves that stuff, too. He used to crank it up in the car with me, and I’d be freaked out. haha

Lol actually metal is all about originality, intricacy and uncompromising artistry, which definitely inspires my writing a lot – as well as the attitude of embracing the darkness. In fact, my poetry writing at first started as lyrics, then I shifted the focus when I found out I’m just not as good at writing music haha.

Ah…the first like- feels good:) Awesome post. So funny because I was going to write one about “the right time to scream” (the other day), but I digressed…hahaha. Thanks for the shout-out Kevin! And cool guitars! ps.you can always rent a lambur..I can’t spell it. (You know what I mean..haha)

I know what you mean, don’t worry. You want me to rent a Lambur (assuming that is some kind of device related to lambs??)

Yes.. Wild lambs who roam the plains of…um crickets. They need a lambur to keep them warm. Yes. Exactly.

OMG, what a question… I liek so much… I often even don’t know where the bads come from. I love Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Queen, Nickleback (oh no, they are Canadian), really I like so much also different styles. It more depends on the song rather than the band. Why do you ask?

That’s right, I like that too! Acutally I love everything from Rock/Pop over Country up to Musical and Classic. Even Jazz. It always depends… haha
