Years go by, at such a pace,
The mirror reflects a stranger’s face;
Time is lost, but wisdom found,
Clear your mind, hear the sound;
They come for us, one by one,
Covered in fear, don’t try to run;
Weak will fall, first to kneel,
Emboldened to lie, cheat and steal;
The strong persist, but they are few,
Crush thy spirit, who knows what’s true;
Black is white, up is down,
Never relent, for it’s a flawed crown;
Reality shifts in the blink of an eye,
Faceless pawns drift on by;
Waiting for, the arbitrary decree,
Begging and pleading, not to be free;
Keep your distance my shifting friend,
Wait I not, for some declared end;
My life is mine, and yours is not,
My soul will rise, above this earthly rot;
Love I spread, to the open heart,
Stop the madness, be a part.

Very powerful and to some extent frightening poem, Kevin.
Yes, there is a lot of darkness and fear all around the world
but we have to trust that there are cracks where the light comes in.
With such wonderful pictures you obviously see light too. Bless.

Hi Miriam – thanks so much! I’m an eternal optimist, but sometimes even my sunny disposition can’t withstand the onslaught of lying and fearmongering. But, I have hope! And I cherish the time with my loved ones. Hope all is well. 🙂

Such beautiful photos. You are correct….the agenda behind all going on in the world right now is fear and powerlessness. It’s wonderful to connect with you and others that don’t play into that game 🙂

Hey Kevin — great poem! You use complex imagery that I was curious about (all poets use language in very specific ways) … is this a general comment on our turbulent times? Or is this a specific issue re: truth/fear/freedom you are concerned about? Either way, awesome job. If you wouldn’t mind letting one of the “little people” in on creative process a bit, would be much appreciated 🙂 Hope you’re well!

Hey Karen! The words just kind of came to me a few nights ago. I think it stems from what’s going on the world, at both a micro and macro level. I let the reader interpret it in any way they want. I appreciate you asking, and I hope you guys are doing well.
